The Cateye Q3 computer is a wrist-mounted heart rate monitor designed for just about any sport. This computer is the perfect companion for triathletes because as well as offering the standard cycling functions, it records your heart rate whilst on the bike, and it can continue into off-the-bike sports such as running and swimming. The data collected by the Q3 can be transferred onto a PC or dongle for analysis which is great for tracking your progress.

The Cateye Q3 computer has five heart rate zones which are completely programmable allowing you to customise your training to your own specification. It also offers a real-time lap function, time and distance intervals, cadence tracking, and time and distance countdown functions.
Alongside your normal training data the Q3 automatically records your weekly, monthly and annual time and distances. This multi-sports computer is waterproof up to a depth of 30m, another indication that the manufacturers were thinking of triathletes when designing the Q3.
Setting up the Cateye Q3 computer could not be easier as the box contains the handlebar mount and cadence sensor. As soon as you have unwrapped the packaging, you should be good to go. Users can breathe a sigh of relief as the wireless communication on this Cateye is actually pretty good, even when the sensors are wet or covered in mud, which makes a change from many other wireless computers.
There aren’t too many things to complain about with the Cateye Q3 computer, but as always there are a few niggles. The display can look a little crowded and become difficult to read at times which isn’t ideal, but it is not a deal breaker as you quickly get used to it.
The Cateye Q3 computer is a very good cycling computer which has also been designed with other sports in mind, including triathlons. The wrist watch is waterproof up to a 30m depth further highlighting its flexibility. The wireless signal is also very strong so users won’t have to worry about losing connection in the middle of a ride which is always a plus in my books.
