The Elite SuperCrono HydroMag Trainer is ideal for serious cyclists looking for a combination of the resistance curve of a fluid trainer coupled with the flexibility of an adjustable magnetic bike trainer.
As far as set up is concerned the Elite SuperCrono HydroMag Trainer is pretty easy and only requires fitting three screws in the right places.
Fitting your bike into the turbo trainer is also very easy thanks to the adjustable clamp. You only have to adjust the tension once and it is fixed. This makes mounting your bike in the turbo trainer for future sessions a matter of seconds.
What makes this trainer unique is the use of the 33% larger elastogel roller which not only reduces the wear and tear on your tires, but it also effectively reduces vibrations and noise. Elite’s unique SuperCrono Trainer frame uses your weight to maintain contact with the trainer’s roller. This is in contrast to many other trainers which suspend the back wheel and clamp the roller onto it. This means that the trainer allows you to move around more on your bike which certainly makes the entire experience more realistic overall.
Elite has also increased the stability over the previous Crono frame which is always a plus point. The less you have to worry about tipping your trainer over when sprinting over virtual finish lines the better.
The combination of magnetic and fluid resistance means that you can experience the more realistic power curve of a fluid trainer while still varying the intensity from session to session by adjusting the magnetic component on your Elite SuperCrono HydroMag Trainer. This allows for a wide range of training options and will really be appreciated by serious cyclists looking for some variation in their indoor training sessions.
You have the option of eight different resistance levels all of which are adjustable via the twist-level handlebar unit. As one would expect of the price, this is not a wireless unit so you will need to be near a plug socket and you will have wires running on the floor during your sessions.
The ride itself feels very realistic and is very smooth thanks to the frame and also the Elastogel roller. I haven’t experienced any wheel slippage to date which is also a good thing and vibration is minimal. There really is very little noise coming from the trainer when in use and this is thanks to the roller.
One thing worth mentioning is that the resistance unit on the Elite SuperCrono HydroMag Trainer does get very hot after prolonged training sessions. So be warned not to touch it straight after use.
Overall this is a good choice of turbo trainer with a great ride feel and excellent flexibility which will keep pace with your training progression.
